This term we have a number of exciting events including…

• Interschool Sports Carnival – Week 9
• Science and Maths Day – Week 9 

More information regarding these events will be provided closer to their respective dates. 

 

In the classroom this term, we will be focussing on…

• Fluency and comprehension in Reading, particularly students’ abilities to find and locate answers to literalquestions and formulate answers to inferential questions. 
• Digraphs and blends in Spelling, as well as the ‘Bossy E’ (silent E) spelling rule.  
• Persuasive texts in Writing, as well as compound sentences, conjunctions, verb tenses and prepositions. 
• Addition and subtraction within 40, including simpleword problems, in Mathematics, as well as place valueto 40, fractions and measurement of mass, capacity and area. We will also look at position and probability this term. 
• Families and how they change over time in Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). 
• The effects of different types of light and sound produced by objects in Science.
• Keeping safe around medicines and hazardous substances in Health.

Mathopoly - like monopoly, but with math challenges. We loved learning this math game.   Blog week   4  We  are well underway with our learning in  T erm  2.  It is encouraging to see many children  farewelling  their  parents with  such  confidence. Super scientist

    Super Scientist Competition   Dear Parents   In Week 5,  th e Year One children have been invited to present a  short science experiment  to their peers. The class will  select  the  top two ‘ super scientists’  and they will move forward to the Year Level Challenge.    Task   •  The children need to research a scientific concept and then deliver a short experiment on this concept to their peers.  •  Each presentation can be  no longer than 5 minutes and a minimum of 2 minutes in length. •  Children can use ICT resources such as MS PowerPoint to support their presentation, in addition to posters, charts etc. All resources must be made by the children and written in their own words.  •  Experiments should be simple to set up, demonstrate an outcome within the time limit and be  SAFE.  •  Children need to explain what they are demonstrating, what procedure they are following, what happens and if they can, why it happened.  •  I would like the children to include some information as t

End of term 3

Room 9 end of term 3 blog  Wattle Day Week  6 September 1st was National Wattle Day and the students participated in many different activities to celebrate the native plant namesake for our school. Thank you to families that shared some small clippings of Wattle from your gardens.  Sports Carnival Week 7  What a wonderful day the Sports Carnival was and we are so proud of everyone involved for making it such a memorable day for the students. Thank you to parents and families for coming along to show your support.  Maths and Science Day Week 9 Also in Week 10, teachers will had a focus on encouraging and inspiring students in Maths and Science!
