Welcome to term 3


Welcome to Term 3. We are excited about the return of many school events such as assemblies and sports carnivals. It is set to be a busy, but exciting term with many great events on. Please keep the Term 3 Planner handy and read blog posts. 

Term 3 commences for students on Tuesday 21st July. We look forward to seeing all students and hearing about their holidays. Please remember to return all black portfolios that were sent home . 


Term 2 review. 
 Literacy . 
Phonics -We introduced vowels, double consonants, and initial blend sounds this term. Students are expected to recognise the sound, identify and generate words orally that contain them, and read decodable words containing them. As a form of extension, when ready, students will begin spelling words containing blends. 

Here are our new phonics rules;
Short Vowels: Say the letter sound. Like a as in apple, e as in egg.
Long Vowels: Say the letter name. Like a as in acorn , e as in eagle.
Double consonants: Can be found in the middle or at the end of a word. They are found after a short vowel sound. 
Blends: Two consonant letters blended together, you hear both sounds.


Writing - Students are continually developing confidence in their ability to write. Most students are now attempting independent writing and using their sounds to represent words. Our whole class goals in writing are;
1. Capital letters to begin a sentence
2. Spaces between words
3. A full stop at the end of a sentence

Students also have individual writing goals to develop their own writing. 

Reading- We have explicitly introduced all sight words to ….. If your child is ready, they can make attempts at spelling some of the words they can already confidently read. 

Mathematics
We have now covered numbers to 20. Students are expected to recognise the number, write the numbers, and make collections to represent the amount in different ways. 

We have also covered breaking numbers into parts and using this understanding to complete simple addition and subtraction within 10. 

In measurement, students have been learning the mathematical language of longer, shorter, taller, heavier and lighter and comparing objects by size and weight. They have started to measure an objects length using informal units (blocks, paperclips etc).

Welcome to term 4

  Welcome to term 4.  Please note school returns on  Monday 12 th October.  We hope that all children and families have had an enjoyable holiday.   This term will see more exciting events, so get your calendars ready.   Tabloids:  We start this term with our kindy and Pre-Primary sports tabloids being held  on Wednesday 14 th  Oct.  Parents wishing to spectate are asked to assemble on the oval  at 1:00  for  a 1:30  start.   Dancing lessons:  The children will participate in dancing lessons every Thursday starting Week 1. At the end of Term 4 parents will be invited to come along to a dance party to see our wonderful dancing skills.If you are yet to pay for you child’s lesson please do so before Wednesday.  Swimming lessons:  Swimming lessons will be held over a 2-week period towards the end of the term.
